Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)

The Rotary Club of Breakwater Daybreak uses money raised to send South Portland and Cape Elizabeth students to an intensive 4 day program for community youth leaders. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) (pronounced Rye-La) is a conference for high school sophomores who have exhibited leadership in the home, school and community. The purpose of the conference is to introduce students to thoughts, ideas and experiences which, if put into practice, will help develop and enhance their leadership skills at a very important time in their lives. The program is an outdoor living and leadership experience. It includes a high ropes course, compass challenge, canoeing, water sports and a variety of physical initiatives and mental activities.

RYLA is held at Camp Hinds, Raymond, ME during the last weekends in June.
RYLA graduates 2011 with SPHS principal James Holland, Interact Advisor Jennifer Major, Rotarians Ilse Yanis and Meghan O'Brien
