Our meeting place is located on the scenic main campus of Southern Maine Community College which is located close to Portland, the
largest city in Maine, on a beautiful site overlooking Casco Bay. The
College is one of the most picturesque points on the Maine coast,
located on the site of the former Fort Preble. Many of the College
buildings are historic structures that have been renovated to fulfill
the educational mission of the College. The campus covers 80 acres and has 45 buildings, including residence halls and dining
accommodations, as well as an athletic field, a beach, a wharf,
interesting military fortifications, and a lighthouse.
From our meeting venue, we can see the entrance to Portland Harbor as well as Portland Head Light and the open ocean. Large ships, Coast Guard vessels, ferries and working lobster boats can be seen, sometimes almost close enough to join our meeting. Visitors are always welcome. Come join us for the beautiful setting, the good food, the fellowship and fun of our meetings and interesting speakers. Its a great way to start a Wednesday morning.
Directions
FROM I-95
- Take exit 45. Coming off the exit, proceed straight (1.7 miles) to Route 1 (Main Street) in South Portland. Turn left onto Route 1 North.
- At 4th set of lights, bear right toward Route 77 South.
- Proceed straight on Broadway (~1/2 mile) and bear left at the 2nd light to continue on Broadway.
- Proceed approximately one mile on Broadway and at third set of light, turn right to remain on Broadway.
- Continue straight on Broadway to the end (across from the entrance to Spring Point Marina); turn right and proceed one block to Fort Road; turn left onto Fort Road, proceed over the hill to McKernan Drive; turn right onto McKernan Drive and the McKernan Center is the last building on the right.
