Rotary donates dictionaries to third grade students
The Dictionary Project has been an ongoing event since 2009. During October, members of Rotary presented A Student's Dictionary to every third grade student in the following South Portland Schools: Brown, Dyer, Kayler, Small, Skillin, Holy Cross, and Greater Portland Christian School. Dictionaries are personalized with the student's name and letters are sent home to parents.
We donate dictionaries to third graders because most schools teach dictionary skills in this grade. Students at this age also begin to make the transition from learning to read to reading to learn. Rotary is pleased to help students become good spellers, active readers and good writers.
